Where does palm oil come from?

Palm oil is derived from the fruit of the African oil palm (Elaeis guineensis). Two types of oil are obtained from this fruit (palm oil itself, obtained from the pulp of the fruit, and palm kernel oil, from the seed of the fruit) and other ingredients (emulsifiers, oleins, stearins...).

These palms are native to West Africa, but also flourish in other regions with hot, humid climates. Currently, oil palm is cultivated in Africa, Asia, North America and South America.
