Wereyeye / Peonia in Traditional Spiritual Practice

Within some Lucumí, Ifá, Santería, and other Afro-Caribbean traditions, Wereyeye is traditionally used as an ewe or ritual herb in botanical preparations, spiritual baths, omiero, cleansing work, and other ceremonial practices. Exact methods and spiritual correspondences vary by lineage, religious house, and practitioner.

In different lineages, Peonía/Wereyeye may be associated with herb traditions connected with Eleguá, Shangó, Orula, and other spiritual practices. These associations are presented as traditional cultural references rather than guarantees of a specific result.

Botanical Identification

Abrus precatorius is a twining vine in the pea family (Fabaceae) with compound leaves made up of many small paired leaflets. The plant is also known for red seeds with a black marking; those seeds are not included with this product.

Freshness and Natural Variation

This is fresh-cut plant material, not dried herb. Because it is a natural botanical product, stem length, leaf size, fullness, color, and overall appearance can vary from bundle to bundle. Open the package promptly after delivery, keep the herb cool, and use it as soon as practical.

Safety – Do Not Ingest

For traditional external or ritual use only. Do not ingest. Abrus precatorius is a toxic plant and its seeds are especially dangerous because they contain abrin. Keep Wereyeye/Peonia plant material away from children and pets, avoid contact with the eyes and mouth, and wash hands after handling.
